The World Sikh University, London was set up in 1997. It was to commemorate the 300th Birthday of the Khalsa in 1999. The first Faculty of the University is named as School of Religious Studies, and the second Faculty, which was opened in October 2000, is named as Faculty of Languages. The Academic courses have been accredited by the FVG Antwerp Belgium.
The University has been a gradual development from the success of the Khalsa College London which was established in 1985 and which is accredited by all major British Examination Boards: EDEXCEL, OCR and AQA.
