Teaching and Assessment
All course units will have a 2 hour formal lecture and a 2 hour seminar per week. All units will be assessed 40% from in-course assignments, 20% presentation in seminars and 40% from an end of semester examination.

Students must pass at least three units to progress from one semester to another semester. The fourth unit can then be studied together with the units of the next semester.

The assignments will be graded using the following criteria:

Pass Grades :

• A grade - outstanding performance (above 70% score)
• B grade - good performance (between 60-70% score)
• C grade - average performance (between 50-60% score)
• D grade - pass (between 45-50% score)
• Referral - when the student has failed to reach a satisfactory standard in all of the outcomes but in the opinion of the assessor, has made a serious attempt to tackle to outcomes set.
• Fail - The student has, without adequate reason, failed to submit an assignment or the work is wholly inadequate and does not, in the opinion of the assessor, constitute a serious attempt to tackle the tasks and outcome set.

Attendance

The students are expected to attend lectures and seminars regularly. If a student is expected to be absent for more than one week then written notification must be sent to the University Registrar.

Counselling Service

Within each degree scheme there is a well developed counselling system, designed to help students with their day-to-day academic problems. More information about the counselling service is available in the Students area.
