Mr. Gurbachan Singh Gill is felicitated with the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy for his untiring community, social and religious work
The University celebrated its 10th Anniversary with great pomp and show at hotel Ramada Jarvis, Ealing Common. In total 12 students were honoured. Six students were awarded M.A. degrees in ‘Comparative Studies in World Religions: Specialising in Sikh Religion’, and a further six were awarded Certificates in specially run short courses in the Sikh Philosophy.
Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur Bhachu topped the list of the M.A. students. The second place went to Ms G.K. Chana.
Trustee Mr. H.S. Sethi lighted the ceremonial Divas (candles) along with University Professors Dr. KK Naul, Dr. SS Bhalla and Ph.D. students: Madhusudan Singh and Gurmit Singh Gill, to inauguratge the function.
British Sikh Association Chariman Dr. Rami Ranger read the opening address and President T.S. Sahni spoke about the teachings and mission of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
The degrees were presented by Air India Regional Director, Mr. KD Row. He praised the efforts of students, professors and the management for making University a world wide name. He further said that he was very proud to be there, to present degrees to the new graduates.
The high light of the programme was a play titled ‘Shadeed Bhagat Singh’ produced and directed by the University staff and students. The drama was dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of the great martyr. The other items included heart touching poetic recital by NS Azad, Chaman Lal Chaman and Sathi Ludhiani; and folk dances by Khalsa College London Students.
The University gave out two life time awards:
• First one to Mrs. Lucky Dhillon for her work in the field of spreading the message of the Sikh Gurus, and
• Second one to Mr. Ranbir Singh Suri for his work in the Community affairs.
The best University student award went jointly to Mohinder Singh Bahra and Jasbir Kaur Bahra, and
The best Khalsa College student award went to Shivay Raizada- Sidhu
All awards were presented by our popular Member of Parliament Mr. Virender Sharma. He spoke highly of the work and mission of the University.
The high light of the ceremony was the conferment of the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy to Veteran Gurbachan Singh Gill for his outstanding community, social and religious work for the last 50 years.
